Course overview
Keep pupils with allergies safe
The Allergy Awareness & Emergency Response course is a short, practical FAIB course that gives school staff the knowledge and confidence to keep pupils with allergies safe and to act quickly in an emergency.
It covers the requirements of Benedict’s Law, which from September 2026 requires schools in England to have an allergy safety policy, train all staff in allergy awareness and keep spare adrenaline auto-injectors.
Learners explore what allergy is, common triggers including the 14 regulated food allergens, how to reduce the risk of exposure in school and on trips, and how to use allergy action plans and individual healthcare plans.
The course also teaches staff to recognise mild to moderate allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, respond appropriately, use an adrenaline auto-injector and support someone having an asthma attack.
